Operator tip · aircrack-ng
airmon-ng check kill
Kill NetworkManager interference before monitor mode. Remember to restart networking after the lab session.
Guide
Monitor mode fails mysteriously when NetworkManager, wpa_supplicant, or dhclient keep poking the interface. airmon-ng check kill is the blunt fix — and you must undo it when you are done.
Why it matters
Half of "aircrack is broken" tickets are process interference. Killing the managers lets monitor mode stick. Forgetting to restart networking leaves you offline for the rest of the evening.
How-to
airmon-ng check airmon-ng check kill airmon-ng start wlan0 # … lab work … airmon-ng stop wlan0mon service NetworkManager start # or: systemctl start NetworkManager
- Note which processes were killed so you can restore them.
- On some distros use
systemctl stop NetworkManagerinstead of check kill. - Confirm you have a second path online (Ethernet) before killing Wi-Fi managers on a remote box.
